Prof. Getachew Aderaye was Professor of Internal medicine and Chest Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine, Addis Ababa University. He graduated from Addis Ababa University with M.D. in 1980. After that he studied Internal medicine at A.A University graduate studies from 1984 – 1987. He was employed as Internist at the Faculty of Medicine in 1987, and later trained as pulmonologist at McGill University in Canada (1990-1991). He has served both on the University and private sector for over 38 years. He obtained his PhD in infectious disease from Karolinska Institute in Sweden in 2007. Professor Getachew has mentored numerous medical students, both under-graduate and post-graduate.
He also published 45 scientific papers in International renowned, peer reviewed journals, particularly on respiratory diseases of local concern. He was the head of the respiratory unit of the department of internal medicine, faculty of medicine, AAU. At present, he is the executive medical director of Hallelujah General Hospital. Professor Getachew is responsible for the establishment of pulmonary function laboratory and Sleep laboratory at Hallelujah General Hospital.
